The Bell Cross winery is a young winery and is located below Barcelona, high in Montsant, near Priorat. In 2017, Peter from Bell Cross bought his first vineyard in Montsant from Joan and Maria. The deal was concluded with El Tracte, a traditional Catalan handshake to complete a business deal. The vines are on average 40 years old and are matured for 14 months in both used and new oak after harvest and fermentation.
The winery was therefore founded not long ago, but the vines are old. The quality of the vineyards is therefore enormous. In the past, it was just too high and cold here. Moreover, the vineyards were not protected by surrounding mountain slopes as is the case in Priorat. But due to global warming and climate change, the location has its advantages. The first to recognize this was winemaker Joan Asens. A man with the nickname "crac" - roughly translated as genius - is of course a good addition. Born and raised next to the current domain, he knew the potential of these vineyards. For example, he was consulting winemaker for Alvaro Palacios but did not have to think long to become the winemaker of Bell Cros. 2019 was the first year at Bell Cros and in that same year he was named winemaker of the year in Catalonia. The white wines are made from Garnacha Blanca and the red wines from Carinena and Garnacha.
