CHAMPAGNE

6 Dec 2020

PLEASURE WITHOUT LECLERC BRIANT IS DEFINITELY PURELY ARTIFICIAL

We all want to forget the year 2020 as soon as possible. On to a better year, a year in which much more is possible.
With such an important toast comes a very nice champagne. Champagnes are in abundance, but there is one champagne house that stands out by all: Leclerc Briant from Épernay. In December 2018 we were invited for a tour of the vineyard and we were deeply impressed. We are actually still expressing ourselves too carefully. We were ecstatic. If unnecessary travel is allowed again in 2021, drive a weekend or longer to the champagne region. You can hardly do yourself any greater pleasure.
Leclerc Briant is considered the pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture. The first steps towards organic fertilization were already taken in 1947. Leclerc Briant has been fully biodynamic since 2008 and thus meets all the requirements of the Demeter quality mark. They are averse to insecticides on the 14-hectare La Croisette estate in the heart of Épernay. The soil is therefore not disturbed or artificially compressed. They do so much more, they do so much that the method cannot be captured in a few words. The entire process takes place in complete harmony with nature. It is also special that all Leclerc Briant champagnes ripen for at least three years on yeast in very cool cellars, his Abyss even ripens on the bottom of the ocean.

EXCEPTIONALLY TASTY

We don't need to explain to you that this approach is extremely intensive: Leclerc Briant therefore only produces 70,000 bottles per year. At the same time, it is bearing fruit in the form of the three classic grape varieties: pinot noir, pinot meunier and chardonnay. Leclerc Briant's champagnes - classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru - are not only exceptionally tasty, they are also responsible. And to be honest, that drinks just a bit better.
Founded in the village of Cumières in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, the company moved in 1955 to the premises it still nests today in Chemin de la Chaude Ruelle in Épernay. After the unexpected death of director-owner Pascal Leclerc-Briant, the family argued over the inheritance. In 2012, Leclerc Briant was saved from obscurity following the takeover of Mark Nunelly and Denise Dupré, an American couple who, like us, fell in love with the non-conformist nature of this champagne house. This couple deserves a ribbon from us. It would have been a shame if Leclerc Briant had succumbed to all sympathetic intentions.
You can read this blog as a sales pitch, but with that you are doing Leclerc Briant and with that really short of yourself. If you want to start 2021 seriously well, or if you want to give 2020 something of a shine, then you go for New Year's Eve with a blasting effervescence from Mark and Denise. Pleasure without champagne is purely artificial, Oscar Wilde once said. This quote applies doubly to Leclerc Briant.
At Sharing Wine, one of the few stores of Leclerc Briant in the Netherlands, you can choose from several bottles (check list below). Note: these champagnes exceed the flute. Pour this into a Leclerc Briant glass or a similar glass so that all the aromas come into their own.

Cheers to you!
