Description
A bit of history about the origins of the winery: The name Bérard is of German origin and is common in the Alps where it means "loner", "mountain man" and "bear".The family moved to Burgundy and in 957 a Bérard was the first lord of Beaujeu. In the commune of Loché in the Maconnais, the family would be active in the wine trade for four centuries from 974. Benoit Bérard is known to have been buried in Loché in 1636. Eight generations later, descendant Philibert Bérard would still be in the wine trade. He formed the wine merchant "Lemonon and Bérard" together with a family member. On September 4, 1874, Victor Bérard was born and he founded the wine merchant V. Bérard et fils. His company would be the first to supply wine in bottles instead of only in barrels, under the name "Le Cep Vermeil". Today, the company still bears his name, and with pride.
The winery is a leader in the Rhône and they are progressive in terms of innovation.
