Delicate and fresh white Verdeca from the south of Italy. Delicious cheerful drinker. Super juicy with lots of fresh fruit such as peach, lime and pineapple. Fantastic accompaniment to delicious fish dishes or shellfish Read more
The Verdeca grape is an age-old grape variety that takes its name from the green colour (verde) it has. Even when it is fully ripe. The grape originates from the north-west of Puglia and is often confused with the Verdicchio grape from Le Marche. This is not correct because Verdeca is genetically a completely different grape.
Verdeca is mainly known for its use in the drink Vermouth. But in recent years its wines have also made a breakthrough. Verdeca is mainly blended with Chardonnay and can produce very fresh white wines but is also ideal for wood aging.
The grapes are picked at night (cooler in temperature) which guarantees the presence of fresh acids and makes the wine nice and fresh and invigorating. Clearly also a green tinge in the colour of the glass. A delicate bouquet with notes of peach, mango and fresh pineapple. Always that freshness in the mouth, balanced with deliciously soft fruit. Of course with that typical Italian bitterness at the end. Really delicious with Pasta vongole, grilled calamari with lemon. Surprisingly delicious also with Börek with spinach and feta.
