Federico is a 5th generation winemaker just south of Asti, Piedmont. Works in a traditional but innovative way and is very terroir driven. He mainly makes wines from Barbera, the queen of Piedmont. The soils are made of marl, clay and tuff. The vineyards are located in a south/southeast exposure on the hills around Asti.
The harvest takes place around the end of September/beginning of October. After the manual harvest, a long skin maceration follows to extract the characteristic fruit aromas and fresh acids from the grapes. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by a year of maturation in acacia wood. This makes the wine rounder and softer in taste.
In this wine, all the beautiful properties of this grape come together in a perfect way: the intense, ripe fruit, the fresh acidity and the soft tannins.
