This port is named after Dona Margarida, an important figure in the history of the winery. The Dona Margarida Reserva Tawny is a blend of carefully selected old Tawny Ports of different ages, with components that can be up to 50 years old. This blend creates a unique and complex wine.
This family business dates back to 1816. Infantado became famous because it was the first Quinta to bottle Port wines in the Douro Valley in 1979 and not in Vila Nova de Gaia.In 1986, the law in the Douro region changed.Until then, winemakers were not allowed to export their Port if it was not made in Vila Nova de Gaia.Infantado therefore sold the Ports 'home' at the wine estates for many years.Only after the law changed were they allowed to export their wines.Infantado was also the first winery in this region to work organically in 1990. At Infantado, they always do things a little differently than the rest.In the production process, they use less sugar and less brandy. They let the wine ferment for longer so that there is less sugar in the wine and the alcohol percentage is already higher, which also means that less brandy needs to be added during the fortification of the wine. The result is a very elegant port that distinguishes itself by its digestibility. In addition to port, they also make still wines, some from their own vineyards, but also projects with purchased grapes
