This family business dates back to 1816. Infantado became known for being the first Quinta to bottle Port wines in the Douro Valley in 1979 and not in Vila Nova de Gaia. In 1986, the law changed in the Douro region. Until this time, winemakers were not allowed to export their port if it was not made in Vila Nova de Gaia. So for many years, Infantado simply sold the Ports 'at home' on the wine domen. It was only after the change in the law that they were allowed to export their wines. Infantado was also the first winery in this region to go organic in 1990.
At Infantado, they always do things a little differently than the rest. They use less sugar and less brandy in the production process. They allow the wine to ferment longer so that there is less sugar in the wine and the alcohol percentage is already higher, with the result that less brandy needs to be added during the strengthening of the wine. The result is very elegant port that stands out for its digestibility. In addition to port, they also make still wines, some of their own vineyards, but also projects with purchased grapes.
