Quinta de Carvalhais is the showpiece of Sogrape in the Dão with the aim of making elegant yet intense wines. Since the purchase in 1988, everything has been restored down to the last detail and the 50 hectares of vineyards have been completely restored.
The current oenologist is Beatriz Braga Cabral Almeida. Carvalhais works with grape varieties characteristic of the region such as Encruzado, Bical and Touriga Nacional.
The vineyards are located around Mangualde, near Nelas and Alcafache, about 20 km southeast of Visue, at an altitude between 400 and 700 meters. The soil contains a lot of slate and granite.
The wine is aged for 12 months in approximately equal proportions of new and used French oak barrels.
