Description
Amber Rivesaltes, aged for at least two years in an oxidative environment in large containers (oak barrels or barrels). With a beautiful dark golden or amber color, they are distinguished by their scents of hazelnut, almond, walnut, candied citrus and toasted notes. These wines can grow very old without losing their potency. The wine has matured in barrel for over 50 years before being bottled in small quantities.
The appellation takes its name from the city of the same name, Rives Hautes, whose name means "high banks" in Catalan. The vineyard extends over just over 8,000 hectares of terraces and hills, traversed by three rivers that have formed the relief. Rivesaltes was very successful in the 1930s, to the extent that it was one of the first French wines to achieve controlled appellation status in 1936. A few years later, the War Troubles period took over from this craze. For some time, however, we have seen, like Sauternes and other noble sweet wines, a return to old bottles of natural sweet wines: the method of making the wines guarantees them an incomparable longevity, yet the prices remain incredibly low.
