Description
Made from 100% Sangiovese, Rosso di Montalcino is considered Brunello's younger brother. Aged for one year in 20 hl Slavonian oak barrels, the wine combines the solemn structure of Brunello with the freshness and vibrancy of a young wine; it prefers to be drunk young, even though it is resistant to aging. The wine has an intense ruby red color, already on the nose it reveals all its exuberance with notes of red fruits, black currants, black pepper, liquorice and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full, intense, harmonious, with persistent aromas of red fruit in combination with velvety, round tannins. This wine is a perfect partner with, for example, tenderloin Rossini and other beef dishes, stewed game or lamb shoulder, dishes with truffle, stuffed ravioli or mushroom pasta.
Tenuta di Sesta is located in the southern part of the municipality of Montalcino, between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate, near the famous Romanesque abbey of Sant'Antimo, on a south-facing slope that goes downhill from 400 to 200 meters above sea level. These lands are considered one of the most suitable areas for the production of Brunello di Montalcino, given their specific location: in fact, the vineyards in the north are sheltered from the cold winds from the north by the Poggio d'Arna and enjoy the warm Maremma currents thanks to the proximity of Monte Amiata which favors a mild microclimate. Thanks to its enchanting location in Sesta, it is possible to enjoy the fruits of the earth well before other regions.
