A clear, light red wine with a nose of red currant, amarena and black cherry. The taste is elegant, with firm tannins that are well balanced with the sultry fruit tones and the overall ripe impression of the wine. Read more
The Tornatore wine estate was founded by Francesco Tornatore, who earned his money in telecommunications. It was only in the 21st century that he created a beautiful wine estate in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern side of Etna on the volcanic soil. However, Francesco's great-grandfather planted vineyards in 1865, so that Tornatore can not only boast more than 150 years of experience but also has some old vineyards. It was decided to work with the native grape varieties, so Nerrello Mascalese and Nerello Cappucio for red and Carricante for white, which are also all picked by hand.
Sicily is quite warm, but the wines of Tornatore are so high, between 600 and 1000 meters, that a remarkable freshness and elegance is achieved. That is why the red wines are sometimes called the Burgundies of Sicily. In the cellar too, nothing is left to chance to make great wines, with respect for the terroir: the wines are fermented in modern concrete vats and matured in casks, so that there is virtually no wood use in the wines. All in all, this produces very precise, elegant, fresh and drinkable wines, which are also very pleasantly priced for Etna standards. The recognition for the wines therefore went quickly. For example, the 'regular' Etna Rosso already received three glasses at Gambero Rosso and up to 95 points from James Suckling.
